Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal (BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal) is a farmers’ organization that seeks to provide a strong and organized voice for farmers and rural communities. The organization takes its name and inspiration from Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar, whose association with the 1857 uprising in Meerut represents courage, resistance and commitment to the people.

The organization focuses on issues that directly affect the lives and livelihoods of farmers and rural communities, including fair agricultural prices, electricity, irrigation, sugarcane payments, agricultural debt, land rights and farmer social security. Foundation of BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal

On November 27, 2025, inspired by the life, courage and legacy of Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar, the organization was formally announced at his birthplace on the occasion of his birth anniversary. During the occasion, Pawan Singh Gurjar was chosen as the President of the organization. Today, Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal (BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal) is regarded as one of the prominent organizations representing the Gujjar community, with a focus on farmer welfare, social unity and the interests of rural communities.

The History & Legacy of Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar

Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar holds an important place in Meerut’s history and the uprising of 1857. Born in 1820 in Panchali village, he served as the Kotwal of Meerut and became associated with the historic events of 10 May 1857. According to the Government of India’s account, he helped free more than 800 prisoners during the uprising. He was later sentenced to death and hanged on 4 July 1857, and his courage, sacrifice and leadership continue to be remembered in Meerut and inspire Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal.
